Despite not winning any hardware at the James Beard Awards, the No. 1 best new restaurant was Restaurant Yuu in Brooklyn. 7 Adams was a new venture from chefs David Fisher and Serena Chow Fisher, who also earned the second spot on the Robb Report list.

Despite not winning any hardware at the James Beard Awards on June 10, two Bay Area restaurants were just named among the best new restaurants in America.
In an annual list by Robb Report, a luxury lifestyle magazine, Oakland’s Burdell and San Francisco’s 7 Adams made the list of the 10 best new restaurants in the country.
Burdell, a soul food restaurant from chef Geoff Davis, came in at No. 8. Davis’ first brick-and-mortar restaurant opened to immediate and wide acclaim in Sept. 2023. His vision of nostalgic soul food plays out in an array of dishes like boiled peanuts with peanut miso and house spices, “bbq” whole shrimp in a tomato gravy spiked with Worcestershire sauce, brown butter, lemon and hot sauce, as well as a pickle-brined fried chicken sandwich that can only be ordered while eating at the bar. Burdell pairs each course with a wine, paying homage to his own family’s tradition of enjoying wine with soul food at gatherings.
“We are excited to be included! Really cool,” Davis told SFGATE via text. “Bay Area didn't get much love last night.”
Davis was a finalist for Best Chef: California at the James Beard Awards ceremony in Chicago on Monday night but did not win. That honor went to Los Angeles chef and restaurateur Lord Maynard of Filipino restaurant Kuya Lord.
7 Adams, a relatively new venture from chefs David Fisher and Serena Chow Fisher, earned the No. 2 spot on the Robb Report list. After departing from Michelin-starred Marlena in the summer of 2023 due to a conflict with the owner, the duo opened their own restaurant in San Francisco’s Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood. The restaurant has a prix fixe tasting menu under $100 and was added to the Michelin guide in March 2024. The five-course menu changes regularly based on seasonal ingredients, but diners can expect items like seared black cod with confit sunchoke, smoked trout roe and clam butter, along with pork collar plated with cheddar grits, broccoli spigarello and breakfast sausage.
The No. 1 best new restaurant, according to Robb Report, was Restaurant Yuu in Brooklyn, which serves French cuisine with Japanese influences.
