For months, the San Francisco Police Department Narcotics Unit investigated the sale of illegal products at smoke shops in the Park and Sunset districts, which violates California state and San Francisco laws. The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) has seized hundreds of illegal items from smoke shops in the Park and Sunset districts, in violation of California state and San Francisco laws. The investigation led to searches of two stores and seizure of hundreds of items, including flavored tobacco, kratom, drug paraphernalia, 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), and psilocybin and nitrous oxide. The items were often sold in packets labeled as herbal supplements or in other products with misleading labels. The first search occurred on September 10, 2026, and a second took place on October 9, 2025, where officers found over 400 kratom products, over 200 flavored vapes, and tobacco products. The department and the City Attorney's Office are working together to investigate these investigations.
