2 Free-Agent Relievers Who Could Instantly Help Athletics
If the A's look to add some payroll this offseason, they could perhaps add one of these star closers in free agency. The Athletics' bullpen struggled last season, finishing with the worst bullpen ERA in baseball. The team's lack of a true closer was a key issue, with Elvis Alvarado being sent down to Triple-A. The new President of Baseball Operations, Taylor Smith, may force the team to spend more on their payroll this year. If the A's are looking for one of the best potential closers on the market, they could consider former Yankees closer David Bednar. Bednar's track record and age-32 status could suggest a multi-year deal for the A’s. Dodger Alex Vesia, a two-time World Series champion, could also be considered a potential closer for the team.
