The festival, which has been celebrating African-American cinema since 1998, will also feature VanPeebles' latest film, the western “Outlaw Posse” and 1995 film “Panther” at the AMC Kabuki, followed by an hour-long Q&A with him. A free event at the S.F. Public Library’s Main Branch is also set to take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 16, with a screening of his 2018 action film "Armed" followed by a Q-A at the library.

Actor and filmmaker Mario Van Peebles is the guest of honor at the San Francisco Black Film Festival, which has celebrated African American cinema and the African cultural diaspora since 1998.
Raised in San Francisco, Van Peebles — the son of former cable car operator and filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles — is set to present his latest film, the western “Outlaw Posse,” followed by his 1995 film “Panther,” about the rise of the Black Panthers, beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the AMC Kabuki. The double feature will be followed by an hour-long Q&A with Van Peebles.
Van Peebles is also front and center for a free event at the S.F. Public Library’s Main Branch beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 16, with a screening of his 2018 action film “Armed” followed by a Q&A.
The festival opens at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, with a reception/cocktail hour followed by a short film block and a feature, “Timeless: A Virgin Islands Love Story,” about the spirits of victims of the slave trade reincarnated and reuniting in the present.
