Activists are urging Eastmont Mall in Oakland, California, to stop allowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to operate on the property. The activists allege that the site has been used to transfer detainees for over a year and have staged a "die-in" to honor those who have died while in ICE custody. The demonstration was held in Parking Lot 'C' at Eastmont mall to commemorate those who died while being held in custody. Activists argue that the presence of federal immigration agents has created fear among immigrant families seeking medical care. The Department of Homeland Security responded to questions about the activity at Eastmon Mall, stating it is fully authorized under federal law and a standard practice for law enforcement agencies nationwide.
