DUI Checkpoint Results In Arrest, Tickets

Another DUI checkpoint is planned for later this month in Berkeley. Berkeley Police Department conducted a DUI/driver's license checkpoint on May 24, which resulted in 17 citations and one arrest. The checkpoint was held on Ashby Avenue at San Pablo Avenue, with a total of 901 drivers screened. The citations were for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license. The driver who was arrested had an outstanding warrant for DUI. Another 19 drivers were evaluated for DUI and released. Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The next DUI checkpoint will be held on June 28.

BERKELEY, CA — Despite warning the community days in advance and providing the exact location and time of operation for a DUI/driver's license checkpoint, the Berkeley Police Department still issued 17 citations and made one arrest.

The checkpoint was held on May 24 on Ashby Avenue at San Pablo Avenue.

A total of 901 drivers were screened at the checkpoint. The citations were for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license. The driver who was arrested had an outstanding warrant for DUI.

Another 19 drivers were evaluated for DUI and released.

The next DUI checkpoint will be held on June 28.
