San Francisco is the unlikely antagonist in 'Heated Rivalry'
"F—king f—k San Francisco." The six-episode series "Heated Rivalry," based on Canadian author Rachel Reid's "Game Changers" novels, has become a hit since its debut in late November and has become the most popular series on HBO Max. The show, which focuses on two gay hockey players, features a team named San Francisco, a stand-in for the San Jose Sharks. However, San Francisco does not have a major league hockey team. In the show's second episode, one of the main characters, Ilya Rozanov, leads his Boston Raiders against San Francisco in the Cup championship series, where he derides the fictional San Francisco team in an expletive-riddled pregame speech. The series' fifth episode featured a scene where San Francisco's fictional team was defeated by New York's New York Admirals in a game against the New York team.
