SAN RAMON, CA — Fat Maddie’s Grille, a family-owned restaurant providing local farm-fresh food, makes some of the best fries in the region, according to a new list from The Mercury News.

“Named for one of the family’s goats, Fat Maddie’s uses organic eggs, herbs and produce from the family farm just outside Danville for its artisanal salads, sandwiches, gyros and specialty burger,” the paper said of the restaurant, which has locations in San Ramon and Danville. The paper named Fat Maddie’s curly, sweet potato, garlic, and garlic-feta fries as standouts, but singled out the Buffalo and chili cheese fries as a standout. The fries contain chili and chunks of beef, and are “a meal all by themselves.”

Pete and Kelli Stephanos opened the first Fat Maddie’s in San Ramon in 2010, which the paper praised as providing "a cozy farmhouse feel for anyone who wants to linger, with an entire wall paneled in rough-hewn wood and drinks served in Mason jars, not plastic cups." They serve “Southern food with Southern charm and the freshest ingredients” from the farm at the base of Mt. Diablo, according to their website. In addition to Maddie the goat, the farm contains Charlie the goat, a flock of chickens, a few horses, and a family of deer.

In addition to its fries, the San Ramon location at 2005 Crow Canyon Place offers a full menu of sliders, salads, sandwiches, burgers, gyros, vegetarian meals, chicken, salmon, steak, and more. Call 925-355-1975 or visit fatmaddies.com for more information.
