San Ramon Dog Family Group Hosts Community Cleanup

A large group of residents and their dogs worked together to clean up the area around San Ramon Sports Park. San Ramon Dog Family Group hosted a cleanup of trash at San Ramon Sports Park in May, which included disposable masks, plastic bottles, soda cans, paper napkins and also dog poop bags. The group held a puppy cleanup party and filled roughly 20 large bags of trash in the area around the park and Live Oak Elementary School. Organizer Ashish Mirji said that the group hopes to do more cleanups in the future and celebrated with a potluck lunch.

“Lately we have seen a lot of trash along the streets and on trails in our neighborhood (around San Ramon Sports Park),” cleanup organizers said in a signup sheet. “The trash mostly consists of disposable masks, plastic bottles, soda cans, paper napkins and also dog poop bags. The city's appointed ACI is probably doing its job of cleaning the streets, but this trash is on trails and walkways where ACI may not be able to reach.” The cleanup was undertaken by a dog family group that meets every day at the park. Organizer Ashish Mirji told Patch that the group has about 80 members, who have been meeting since the pandemic. Over the past two years, the group has thrown each other puppy-themed parties for birthdays, Halloween, Christmas and more.

On May 27, they held a puppy cleanup party, and filled roughly 20 large bags of trash in the area around the park and Live Oak Elementary School. This is the group’s second cleanup event, following an October 2021 cleanup that resulted in about 14 bags of trash, and Mirji said that the group hopes to do more cleanups in the future. After the cleanup, the group celebrated with a potluck lunch. “I see this as an opportunity to bring our community together to pick up the litter from the streets and keep the neighborhood clean. This is also a great way to instill civic sense in our residents and children,” organizers wrote.
